The American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ) is a non-profit, independent, co-educational day school offering an instructional program Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and this accreditation is reviewed every 7 years. The school was established in 1982 to cater for the needs of diplomatic and global executive families as well as South African students and adheres to the northern hemisphere and international school year August through June.
The curriculum is American based with an international influence and language of instruction is English. The second language of the school is Spanish beginning at Kindergarten level and the third language of the school is French commencing in grade six.
The school has a Resource Department to assist students who present special needs and an ELL Department to assist the non-English home language students to gain a proficiency in the language of instruction. It is Board policy that classes for core academic subjects should not exceed 15 - 17, thus providing students with excellent individual attention.
An aspect of the school curriculum that is gaining in stature is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program which we offer to students in grades 11 and 12 as an alternate to the American Graduation Diploma. The IB Diploma is accepted as an entrance qualification at over 900 universities in 70 different countries.
Students can enroll in The American International School of Johannesburg throughout the year. Final decisions on admission are made by a team of professional staff members.
