Requirements for graduation are established by the Director and approved by the school’s Board of Trustees. They are consistent with the stated philosophy and goals of the school, as well as the requirements for admission to the most selective colleges and universities in the world.

Admission to the High School will depend on the applicant’s previous academic records, including his/her ability to complete AISJ’s graduation requirements before his/her 20th birthday.

Students planning to attend South African universities need to be aware of the following:

  • All students need to apply for a Matriculation Exemption Certificate from the South African Board of Education. This is done with the assistance of the High School Counselor
  • If possible, students should begin planning their course of study in Grade 10, taking the appropriate courses in Mathematics and Science in order to meet South African universities’ requirements
  • Students planning to apply to study Medicine, Pure Sciences, or Engineering should complete the full IB Diploma Program
  • Students planning to study in other areas, e.g. Humanities or Commerce, do not need to complete the full IB Diploma.
