The AISJ Food Services Department provides Cafeteria Services, runs the Tuck Shop and caters for meetings & functions held at School. The team of 7, led by Melanie Meyers serves on average 230 meals every day.
This year we are focusing on healthy, hearty, home-made meals. We are joining forces with the Heart Foundation & Discovery Vitality Schools to obtain the objectives set out by the Healthy Food Committee last year.
We are serving a more balanced meal this year, and still encourage them to eat their 5 Fruit & Vegetables a day. We’ve just made it easier for them to reach this goal, by providing a larger selection of fruit & vegetables!
Our Cooking methods & Ingredients meet the standards laid down by the Heart Foundation. We’ve included salads, fruit, yoghurt, whole wheat rolls and muffins in our daily lunch.
Our Tuck Shop has also undergone big changes, to be in line with the Heart Foundation criteria. We’ve done away with many unhealthy items, and now serve far more meal options, such as Seed Rolls & Fillings, Fruit Salad, Biltong, Healthy Pies & Frozen Yoghurt.
We hope that all these healthy changes will assist our kids to become healthy individuals! |
