The Winter School program will run at AISJ Johannesburg Campus from June 3rd to June 21st 2013. It is specifically aimed to serve those students that stay in South Africa for most of the June/July break. It also serves to provide those new students arriving in South Africa with a stimulating environment and at the same time, an opportunity to get orientated at our school.
At this time of the year it is necessary to start thinking about how the program will run and who will participate in it. It has a fairly standard format. We start teaching at 9:00 am each day and end at 1:00 pm. The day consists of about five, thirty five minute blocks. We break for a snack and relaxation half way through the morning. Then children are placed in groups ranging from Pre-Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. Each group rotates through the program on a daily basis.
This year the program will run on a weekly basis, over a three week period. It will offer new and stimulating workshops each week to maintain the energy it requires to give of our best after a hard year. The workshops are based entirely on the talents that teachers can bring to the program.
This year the kinds of workshops may include:
Technology
Science workshops
Arts and crafts
Book making
Music and movement
Drama workshops
Design technology
Dance Workshop
Creative play
Kinder Kinetics
Baseball
Soccer
Cricket
Tennis
Board games
Baking and cooking
It also includes weekly fieldtrips such as ice-skating, visits to the bird park and other exciting activities.
