All students studying in kindergarten to Grade 5 take Spanish as the second language. From grade 6 and above, students have the option of Spanish or French.

Students studying the IB in Grades 11 and 12 may have the option of studying their native language.

DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO STUDY AN AFRICAN LANGUAGE?

No. At this time, AISJ does not offer any of the South African national languages other than English.

DO AISJ STUDENTS WEAR A UNIFORM?

We have a casual dress policy; students wear comfortable appropriate clothing.

WHERE DO MOST AISJ STUDENTS LIVE?

AISJ families live in a wide spread area covering Fourways, Dainfern and Sandton suburbs in addition to the central Pretoria and East Pretoria. In simple terms, the majority of families live in Fourways/ Dainfern or Waterkloof and surrounds

WHAT ARE THE MAIN NATIONALITIES REPRESENTED AT AISJ?

Students represent over 107 nationalities; up to 25% are American with Dutch, South African, British, Korean, Indian and Swedish also well represented

DO YOU HAVE LONG WAITING LISTS FOR PLACES?

Not usually, however as Johannesburg continues to define its position as a leading regional center, and AISJ continues to develop as the predominant international school, waiting lists are becoming more of a norm. That said, a waiting list would be comprised of several rather than hundreds of students. Due to the transient nature of AISJ families there is always a strong chance that a place will become available but obviously, it is not guaranteed.

HOW SOON DO I NEED TO REGISTER MY CHILD?

As soon as you know you are relocating to Johannesburg! We will not accept applications more than 18 months in advance.

IN WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES IS THE APPLICATION FEE REFUNDED?

None, the application fee covers the cost of the application process regardless of the outcome of the application.

WHAT IS THE CAPITAL FEE?

Such a fee is standard in most international schools and separates the cost of the actual teaching from the cost of the larger construction and refurbishment projects. As such the capital fee funds all significant expenses such as buildings and capital assets.

WILL AISJ NEGOTIATE ON THE TUITION FEES?

No. Under no circumstances will AISJ negotiate the published tuition schedule.

WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE AVAILABLE AFTER SCHOOL?

The list is endless! Key sports for older students are soccer, volleyball and basketball, swimming. Other activities include stock market investors club, yearbook, photography, hiking, equestrian, theatre, astronomy, art and literature magazine, SCUBA, yoga and more. Elementary school students can participate in golf, tennis, karate, cooking, swimming, hip-hop, ballet, debating, SpeedStacks, service learning, knitting, creative writing, art and more.

DO YOU HAVE STUDENTS BOARDING AT AISJ?

Yes, we have a small boarding house, which is only available to those students attending AISJ on scholarship.

Our healthy cafeteria offers a range of meals including a hot meal, sandwiches and rolls, sushi, fruit and salad.

The hot meal / set menu costs R45.00 for MS & HS students and adults. The middle and high school students have access to other items priced individually.

The hot meal / set menu costs R40.00 for ES students.
