Community Garden (Meetse A Bohpelo Primary School)

Grade 2: Working in collaboration with our partner school, Meetse, students identified foods to grow in the AISJ community garden and seedlings to grow and share with the community. Students tended their plants and shared their produce in a cook-off and by giving their seedlings to grow at their partner school.

In this elective, students learn how to coach a variety of sports and activities. They are involved in coaching younger grade levels things such as water safety or drills.

Lapa Square Foot Garden (AISJ School Community)

Human Rights with Mercy House and UN

Grade 8 is working on an integrated unit between LA and SS. They are researching Human Rights, interviewing specialists and analyzing all the information to produce a brochure about their chosen topic. Fair chance: Grade 8 SS and LA is investigating about fair trade and fair chance. The point of this unit is to raise money by doing a ‘carnaval’ to pay school fees for a refugee child from Mercy House. (Teachers: Cassie Habeck, Nozizwe)

Wet Nose Animal Shelter

Wetnose helps rescue dogs and we help with awareness of the shelter and adoption and organize drives for the dogs and the shelter such as food, towlels etc. Wet Nose Animal Rescue Centre was opened in April 1999, as a registered non-profit organisation devoted to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of abandoned, abused and neglected animals. They are a right-to-life organisation, which means we don’t believe in euthanasia, except in the most extreme cases where an animal is suffering and it’s in the best interests of the animal

Solar Cookers (Meetse A Bohpelo Primary)

Grade 6 has been working on solar cookers this year. They have built their own cookers and then shared their experience and learning with Meetse - our partner school. Next step is for Meetse students to come with their solar cookers and introduce them to our students → Creating a loop to learn from each other.
