Welcome to the AISJ website! My name is Andy Page-Smith and this is my sixth year as the School Director of the American International School of Johannesburg. I have been an administrator in international schools for the past 21 years with previous overseas leadership roles in Kuwait, Vietnam, Qatar and Hong Kong. I am accompanied by my wife, Merris, and daughter, Sidhonie, a 11th grader – we are all thrilled to be here at this amazing school and in such a vibrant and exciting country.
I am very fortunate to inherit the leadership of a school founded 32 years ago in the best traditions of American education but a school that is also truly international in practice and demographics. At our 2013-2014 International Day celebration, we had 107 nationalities represented within its student body. I am also fortunate to lead a highly committed staff of local and international teachers, administrators, and support staff who make the school such a warm and welcoming environment for students and parents. The teachers - many recruited from around the world - add to the diverse richness of what really makes the school and South Africa such an exciting place.
AISJ is a very ‘happening’ place - supporting families and best educational practices. Low student/teacher ratios, personal care, and commitment, together with a broad-based quality program designed to meet the needs of all of its students are among its trademarks.
In October of 2010 the school, through a community-wide initiative called “Voices to Vision”, totally overhauled its mission and core values as well as developing a critical future vision.
