In March, 2015 following a superb fanfare from our AISJ Pretoria Campus Band, we officially opened the Weinberg Center.
Named for Pretoria Campus’ long-serving Principal Ben Weinberg, the center, which is 1 225.3m² Gross Area, houses a Library, Learning Support Center, Technical Center, Art Room, Multi-Purpose Room and Parent Room.
All the learning spaces are light and airy, with high ceilings and beautifully finished often custom made fittings and furnishings.
The stunning library which currently holds over 10,000 items, including books, media resources, and our digital e-collection is available to all of our community members. We further subscribe to a variety of online databases which provide the community with a wealth of appropriate digital resources for learning. The library design entices students, faculty and parents into its space. The arrangement of the titles, the colors of the diverse furnishings and the different levels and interestingly shaped areas all contribute to its allure. Served by a librarian and library teaching partner the library is, ‘the heart of our school’ and it is alive with visitors all day long.
At one side of the library, accessible through what our students call the Harry Potter (rotating) Bookshelves is our large Multi-Purpose room. As the name implies this comfortable learning environment is used for diverse activities. Research projects, multi-media classes, swimming theory work, faculty training sessions, parent presentations and yoga classes are just some of the activities it hosts.
Next door is our Technical Center which facilitates and troubleshoots any issues our students in Grades 4 to 8 encounter with their tablets.
The Sensory Room in our Learning Support Center, is a much loved and appreciated area where students can be stimulated or calmed depending upon the resources and programs used.
We also benefit from the Art Room with indoor and outdoor work areas and superb natural light to whet the creative appetite.
Beautifully landscaped, the Weinberg Center has multiple garden spaces which also allow for outdoor performances and events and this is where the opening of the Center itself was celebrated.
