Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, when events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is currently celebrated in more than 150 countries around the world annually. Earth Day was first proposed in 1969 as a day to honor the Earth and the environment. Earth day activities worldwide include recycling, energy conservation, and the planting of trees all around the world.

AISJ celebrates Earth Day each year, as we are very committed to our continued effort to make our school more environmentally friendly. Students from both the Johannesburg and Pretoria campuses take part in events aimed at educating the AISJ community about how we can better protect our planet. Past activities have ranged from recycling competitions and tree planting to turning off all lights on campus for one hour in order to conserve electricity.
