AISJ Alumni Network (AAN)

The American International School of Johannesburg global alumni network is made up of former students, families, and employees who were part of the AISJ community for any period of time and want to stay connected to the AISJ community in South Africa and around the world. AISJ alumni can be found in all corners of the globe, where they are excelling in their professions and serving as contributors and leaders in their own communities. We hope that you remember your time in South Africa fondly and that you will discover rich rewards in maintaining your connections with AISJ and fellow alumni.

ALUMNI CHAPTERS

An alumni chapter is a region city-based based group of alumni who want to formalize their relationship with AISJ and connect with AISJ alumni where they live. Any alumnus may volunteer to convene a chapter. Chapters coordinate and provide opportunities for alumni to socialize and network. They organize local alumni and keep them connected with AISJ. They are the official contact with AISJ in their part of the world. The AISJ Communication Office provides communications and administrative support to the chapter coordinators. Contact alumni@aisj-jhb.com to start a chapter near you.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

AISJ is committed to providing scholarships to South African students who would not ordinarily have the opportunity to attend AISJ due to financial constraints. Scholarship students receive full tuition, room, and board as well as a stipend to cover basic living expenses beginning in Grade 7 and continuing through Grade 12. AISJ strives to provide scholarship students with a world-class education and extracurricular experiences. While AISJ makes strong efforts to ensure that scholarship students are afforded the same opportunities as all AISJ students, these students can be limited by extra costs not covered by their scholarship. Alumni can help maximize scholarship students’ experiences and opportunities at AISJ by giving in a number of ways: Sponsor a student - Your contributions will help a scholarship student with items such as clothing, school supplies, art materials, and athletic gear or will support their participation in field trips like the Global Issues Service Summit or international music conferences and sports tournaments. Help build the new scholarship house - The new scholarship house will serve students by providing a comfortable, welcoming space conducive for students to learn, live together in a tight-knit community, and make big plans for their future. The scholarship house is expected to cost upwards of 30 million Rand and will allow the Scholarship Program to continue increasing its capacity and services. Support the day to day operation of the Scholarship Program – Your gifts will help enhance our ongoing efforts to provide opportunities for local South Africans to earn a world-class education To contribute to the Scholarship Program, please contact the Finance Manager: accounts@aisj-jhb.com

BUY A SEAT CAMPAIGN

In February 2016, we opened the doors to our new 520 seat Performing Arts Theater on the Johannesburg Campus. To celebrate this achievement, AISJ launched a “Buy a Seat” campaign; seats in the theater are available to be named in honor of former students, employees, and families who have been part of the AISJ community. The cost of each seat in the theater is R 3650.00. With a contribution of that amount, a plaque will be fitted to the back of the seat detailing the name(s) of the family or individual and dates at AISJ. All proceeds will be used to support the arts at AISJ and to create a lasting tribute of your time at AISJ. Should you be interested in receiving more information, please contact Ms. Maxine in the AISJ Business Office at accounts@aisj-jhb.com

BAOBAB FUND

The Baobab Fund was established in 2013 to support student service learning projects in grades Pre-K through 12. The Baobab Fund is grounded in AISJ’s beliefs that students learn from, and are enriched by, the perspectives of others, that we have a responsibility to the community in which we live, and that meaningful service is best achieved through sustainable service partnerships. Using resources from the Baobab Fund to support their service projects, AISJ students are able to branch out into the community, build sustainable service partnerships, and work collaboratively with the people of South Africa. With the support from generous donors, the Baobab Fund provides the resources necessary to continue making a difference in the lives of many. AISJ invites alumni to join us in a collaborative effort to engage students in meaningful service projects and create sustainable partnerships with our local community in South Africa.
