I hope you all enjoyed the October holidays with your children. They arrived back on Monday with tales of out of town adventures and playdates and family fun here in Johannesburg.
Grade Four Assembly: This week the whole elementary school gathered for the third assembly of the school year. The grade four students hosted the event. They did a great job of sharing their learning with the audience. We learned about their trip to the Lesedi Cultural Village, their fantasy writing unit, their understanding of the connections between math and music and much more. Special guests included the grade one students who performed the Dance of the Dead; STUCO who shared information about the upcoming Chris Hani Toy Drive; the First Lego League who are preparing for their upcoming competition; Mr. Cosmas who shared information about service learning; and Ms. Narina who taught everyone to sing the new elementary school song. Here's a link to a video of the assembly.
End of Semester Moves: We know that sometimes families relocate at the end of each semester. We also have new families arriving as the second semester begins. In order to place new students into classes, it helps if we know which students are departing. Please remember to let the elementary school office (ES-Office@aisj-jhb.com) know as soon possible if you will be moving in December.
Halloween Celebration: We will be celebrating Halloween in the elementary school on Wednesday, October 30th. Students are invited to wear costumes at school on this day. We will have our annual Halloween Parade and trick or treating from 9:20-10:20. Parents are invited to attend and dress up as well. Students and their families are also invited to create Halloween art that will be used to decorate the ES Office. Students can bring their Halloween art to the ES office between Monday, October 28th and Wednesday, October 30th. Please refer to the document below for additional details. Thanks to our ES Parent Association Coordinators, Yvonne Oosenbrug and Kiki Royaards, for organzing this event.
Co-Curricular Activities: Please note that our season 1 co-curricular activities end this week. There will be no co-curricular activities next week. Season 2 activities will begin on Monday, November 4th. Please plan for your child to leave school at 2:50 next week. Also, be sure to explain your child's after school schedule to him or her when the new co-curricular season begins on November 4th.
Chris Hani Toy Drive
ES STUCO will soon be helping to organize the Chris Hani Christmas Party. This party is organized to put a little smile on the faces of the boys, girls and babies who have been treated at Chris Hani hospital, for cancer.
Please help us spread some cheer by donating toys suitable for children aged 0 – 11. Gifts should be wrapped and labelled by gender and age. They can be delivered to the ES office.
STUCO will deliver the gifts at the party on November 16th.
Games, dolls, soccer balls, stationery, cars, and baby toys make good gifts. Please do not send gifts requiring batteries or, books (as we don't know the language of all kids receiving the gifts). As a guide, gifts should be valued at around R200 – R300.
Thank you for your support
