Dear Parents, 

It was great to see so many of you at Open House this week. I hope that you found the information helpful. We will send home a survey regarding this event next week. This will help us to better respond to your needs at future Open House events. Here is a clearer image of the Portrait of a Learner that was shared with you last night.

MAP Assessment: Students in grades 3 to 5 will be taking the MAP assessment on Friday, September 13th, Monday, September 16th and Tuesday, September 17th. Please click here for more information regarding this assessment. 

ES Musical: Robert Edgar, Narina van Niekerk and Lauren Bastion met with a large group of enthusiastic thespians from grades three, four and five this week. The ES musical directors and producer introduced students to this year's musical, Princess Whatsername. If your child is interested in auditioning for the musical, please review the audition paperwork and rehearsal schedule with him or her over the weekend. The paperwork is due on the morning of Thursday, September 12th. Auditions will take place on Thursday, October 3rd and Friday, October 4th

A Message from the Tech Department Regarding an Increase in Insurance Deductible for Damage to Technology Equipment: Every annum, AISJ, and most organizations in South Africa need to renegotiate its insurance policies. This year is no different. 

Due to the high number of technology equipment related insurance claims last year, primarily for cracked screens on Apple MacBook laptops, the deductible for insurance claims for any damage to school-owned technology equipment such as laptops, computers, iPads and digital still and video cameras has increased from R1000.00 per instance to R2 500.00 per instance, as of immediate effective. 

The relevant information on the AISJ website – Tech Portal has been updated as follows: 

Parents will be required to contribute to the cost of repairing/replacing technology devices assigned to their Gr. 6-12 child if damaged, lost, or stolen, according to the table below:

AISJ supplied technology device chargers may not be covered under warranty or insurance where physical damage has occurred. Tech Service Center staff will assess each case on its merits. In the event, the damage is not covered under warranty or insurance, parents or employees will be required to contribute to the replacement of the charger according to the table above.
