The AISJ Board of Directors seeks qualified candidates to run for election

The AISJ Board of Directors provides strategic and fiduciary oversight for the governance of AISJ. Serving on the Board is a rewarding opportunity to become involved in the long-term strategic planning and sustainability of the school. The Board comprises dynamic and engaged volunteers who work on various aspects of governance, financial planning, and long-term facilities planning. The Board is seeking committed AISJ parents or guardians to run for the Board of Directors. Detailed information on the Board of Directors, requirements for candidacy, and application materials are available on the AISJ website. Applications must be received by 12:00 noon today, February 15, 2019. Meet the Candidates will be held on Wednesday, February 20 at 10 AM in the Library Annex.

Mother Language Day

On Thursday February 21st, our school will be celebrating International Mother Language Day and we need your help.

During this day, the children in elementary and middle school will attend presentations and activities that will enhance the importance of our Mother Languages. We hope you will help organize learning activities in collaboration with your child’s teacher, also, we would like to "add some flavours" to this day and we need your contributions for the Food Festival. As you know, food is very important in our cultures and the language is the tool we use to identify the ingredients, flavours and describe the procedures to prepare meals. There are very special dishes that we consume only on festivities, their recipes have been transmitted from generation to generation and are representatives of our culture.

We would appreciate if you could bring a dish for this day which is related to your culture/mother language, a dish that you and your family identifies with (cookies, salads, desserts, drinks, etc.). We will be catering for the whole school and at least 20 "tasting portions" of your dish will help us.

Please sign up here:

to let us know if you can contribute, and also share some information about the dish you will bring.  The name and the name of the ingredients in your mother language and also the translations in English must be provided. This information will be displayed alongside your dish and you are welcome to join us!

Service Partners

Parents that are interested in joining a small group of volunteers at our partner school, Meetse A Bophelo Primary in Mamelodi East on Tuesdays from 8:45–11:00 AM should email Lauren Greene-Roesel with your telephone contact and Lauren will add you to the volunteer What's App group. Lauren is providing support for teachers and general interaction with Pedi and Zulu-speaking Grade R children (kindergarten) in order to increase basic skills and provide a stronger foundation for English and home-language literacy. Lauren and the children of Meetse A Bophelo Primary need people with a lot of energy and who are comfortable with small children and willing to jump in where needed. The carpool departs from the Silver Oaks Woolworths outside of Silver Lakes Estate.
