It was amazing to see the Elementary School get behind International Day of Peace this week. We saw a sea of white flooding into the school on Wednesday morning. A huge thanks to our Art teacher Donna Jepsen-Minyard for arranging some Peace Day art activities as students arrived at school. Below are some photos of children enjoying making art together, and hanging their comments on our newly acquired ‘Thinking Tree’ which is on display in the ES Office.

Elementary School Production- “Alice in Wonderland”
We are getting geared up and ready to start the Elementary School Production for the 2016/17 school year. This year the production is the musical Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, and is open to third, fourth, and fifth graders. The show dates of the production are February 3rd, and 4th, 2017. The cast this year will be around forty students, plus back-stage crew and painting crew. Twenty-six of these are main roles dedicated to fourth and fifth graders, and the rest will be for the ensemble (chorus) with students ranging from third to fifth grade.
On Tuesday, September 26, students interested in participating in the production are invited to come to the ES Library at 2:30pm to find out more about the show and audition process. Each student interested in taking part in the production will be given a Parent Information Package which outlines the complete audition process, rehearsal dates and forms that need to be completed. Today, both Mr. Robert and Ms. Narina visited each grade 3 – 5 class to tell the students a little about the show and get the excitement in the air. Please visit the ES Portal to read important information on Audition Dates, and ways in which students can be involved outside of performing on stage.
Towards the end of September, students in Grades 3-5 will be involved in MAP testing. Every year, AISJ students in Grades 3-8 partake in a standardized assessment called Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®). Students are administered this assessment twice throughout the year, in September and again in April. During the weeks September 26- October 7, Grades 3-5 students in the Elementary School will take three tests in reading, mathematics, and language usage. The results will be shared with parents towards the middle of October. More information will be sent home via your homeroom teachers webpage, and a formal letter can be found on the ES Portal.
