This past weekend, students, faculty and parents had the privilege of attending our annual Service Learning event at Chris Hani Hospital. Thanks to ourgenerous parent community, the Elementary School raised close to 400 gifts (a record for us!!), and together with the Middle School we took over 500 presents to sick children at Chris Hani Hospital. The photos above hopefully give you a small glimpse into the process we went thought on Saturday. This was the first time I was able to attend this event and I have to say it was moving. Watching the pride and empathy our students demonstrated as they played and interacted with children whose lives are so very different, made me pause and reflect on how lucky we were to be able to share in this experience. Childhood Cancer Foundation (CHOC) is such an amazing organisation, they do such good work in our community, and I feel lucky to have been able to share in this event. A huge thanks to Karen Vicente, whose leadership and drive to make this a meaningful experience for all is impressive. Karen has worked extremely hard to forge this partnership with CHOC, and our Student Council certainly gained valuable insight and leadership experience through leading this initiative. Thanks also to Phil Shelley, and the other AISJ teachers and parents who supported this event.
Having worked in International Schools now for over 13 years, I have come to appreciate the spirit and importance the Thanksgiving holiday represents for American families in our community and hope you enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday and the traditions and festivities this time brings. To everyone else, I hope you manage to find some family time to relax together over the next few days. It seems crazy that when we come back next week, there will only be three weeks left of school until Christmas. This year is flying by.
Kindergarten Music Share
Next Friday, December 2nd Nicola Fader is holding our annual Kindergarten Music Share. This is an opportunity for parents to come and watch their children perform all they have been learning in music. We encourage you to bring your cameras and enjoy the event!!
Online Report Cards
The ES report cards will be released on Wednesday, December 14. This is the first time that we will not be providing a hard copy of the report card. Many schools have moved towards using an online system for reporting, and most schools now only accept electronic versions of report cards. All ES report cards will be made accessible by parents online, via a secure platform. Parents will be able to save a PDF version of these reports to keep for their own records.
Mistletoe Market- Message from The Parent Association
As you may have seen on the school calendar or posters around the school, the annual Mistletoe Market will take place Tuesday, December 6th from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm in Gould's Gym, JHB Campus. With over 50 vendors of local and interesting crafts and edible goodies, you will have a great selection of gifts and treats this holiday season. There will also be a Bake Sale. We are asking all parents to send in homemade treats for this fundraising effort, where all proceeds go to support various PA sponsored activities. Please drop off your donations in the Parent Room December 5th or the morning of December 6th. As always, thank you for your support!
Carols by Candlelight- Tuesday, December 13th
Parents are invited to bring along a picnic, blanket and enjoy the festivities, carols and student performances. It is open to all members of the AISJ community and a nice way to get into the Christmas spirit.
