ES Principal's weekly update - February 03, 2017
Posted 03-02-2017 03:22PM

Dear Parents,

Excitement is at an all-time high for our first performance of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Yesterday, the elementary school was treated to a preview performance which resulted in an increase in ticket sales. I have to say the show is amazing and our students are exceptional. We have sold over 400 tickets for tonight’s performance, which is remarkable. There are still tickets available and we will be selling at the door, so if you want to come last minute there is an opportunity to do so. Tickets are R50. Tomorrow’s performance is at 1:30pm. The show lasts for just over an hour.

Tonight’s performance is going to be livestreamed, meaning that the show is going to be live (like live TV). The link will go live at 6:30pm and can be watched from anywhere in the world. We will also make the recording available through the ES Portal over the coming weeks.

You can click on the ‘Live Streaming’ button on the front page of the AISJ web site, and then click on LiveStream02 OR the direct URL is: https://www.youtube.com/user/AISJLivestream2

 ES Basketball Tournament Tomorrow

Good luck to our four Grade 3-5 basketball teams who compete in the ES Basketball tournament tomorrow. This is a culmination of a seasons worth of training and hard work. The first game begins at 9am and ends in time for the students to be able to attend the ES Play at 1:30pm.

Valentine’s Day for Woodrock Animal Rescue

Thanks to our Parent Association, we have decided to do Valentine’s Day a little differently in the ES this year. Instead of having a class party, we have decided to embed a Service Learning element into the day. Woodrock Animal Rescue is an organisation in our community that rescues cats and dogs. Next Thursday, we will hear a presentation about the work they do, and have some puppies visit our school. The students will all have an opportunity to interact with them throughout the day. We have asked the students to bring in cat food or dog food to donate. We will present this to Woodrock Animal Rescue during Thursday’s presentation. The presentation will be in the Theatre starting at 12:30pm. Parents are welcome to attend.

Grade 5 Camp

Good luck to our grade 5 students who head to Maraneman Camp next week for three nights. This is always a highlight of the Grade 5 year, and I know the students and teachers are really looking forward to this experience. We look forward to welcoming them back to school on Thursday.

Family Fun Day Planning

Family Fun Day: Saturday, April 8th

You are invited to the Family Fun Day planning meeting. Come help us plan what is one of the best days at AISJ! If you've attended in years past, you know what a fantastic day it is for the whole family. It is also a massive production and we'd love your help in planning and carrying out this event. Come with ideas or just to see if you want to volunteer in some way. Hope to see you there!

Planning Meeting:
Date: Thursday, Feb 9th
Time: 11:30am
Place: Parent Room

PK-2 Sports Day

Fast approaching is the PK-2 Sports Day on Friday, 24th Feb. This year, we are including the PreK classes in the event and hope that they will enjoy the day as much as the older kids do. We have shortened the program this year. The entire event will be just under 90 minutes starting from 8:15 when everyone heads down to the field and gets ready in their teams.

  •  Friday February 24th PreK to Grade 2. This is the first time that PreK students will be joining the ‘big kids’.
  • Friday March 3rd for Grade 3 – 5.

Both events will be held in the morning starting around 8:15. More details will be posted on the PE FinalSite in the coming weeks.

This year we would like to invite parents to get involved in Sports Day by helping to run some of the activities with the teachers. If you would like to volunteer for about 20 - 25 minutes on either of the Sports Days, please email Mrs Ferguson (iferguson@aisj-jhb.com) or Mr Keet (ckeet@aisj-jhb.com) before Thursday 16th February. This is your opportunity to have as much fun as the children for a little while.

We are looking forward to having an exciting time.
