Elementary School Weekly Update 31 August 2018
Posted 31-08-2018 03:43PM

Dear Parents,

Thanks to all parents who came out to our Open House last evening. We hope you found the sessions useful in understanding the curriculum being taught in your child's classroom, and that you had the opportunity to meet your child's Specialist teachers.

Here is a link to our Open House Survey. We would appreciate your feedback on this event, so that we can continue to look at ways to improve and grow.

Steph Sprint Community Run Tomorrow

Building Bus Communities

This Wednesday, elementary students had the opportunity to come together during 'Building Bus Communities' to meet as a bus group, and do some fun team building activities. We also took the opportunity to go over the rules on our busses and to meet with each bus driver.

New Library Books

This morning our Librarian, Gill Porteous, arranged for the entire ES to meet in the library to enjoy hearing from teachers about all the favourite books they have read. We have hundreds of new books that have just arrived, and students are excited to check these out. Parents are welcome to check out books also and we encourage you all to come in and take a look at the wonderful new books out on display.

Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) in Grades 3-5

Every year, AISJ students in Grades 3-8 partake in an assessment called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP).   Students are administered this assessment twice throughout the year, in Sept and in May. The first semester assessment window will take place during September 3rd -7th. Students will take a total of three assessments: Reading, Math and Language Usage. For more detailed information on MAP testing in the ES, please read the parent letter on the ES Portal.

MAP results will be emailed out to parents approximately two weeks after the assessments are completed. Dr. Robert Evans will be holding a MAP presentation for parents on September 28th @ 8am in T&L 1. Parents are encouraged to bring their child's MAP assessment with them so they can go through the interpretation and varying aspects included.

Lost Property

We have already managed a large collection of lost property, which is on display outside the ES Office. Every item that is on display is unnamed, and there are some expensive and new pieces of clothing. Please help us by naming all items your child brings to school.

Car Pick Up/Drop Off and Speeding

We have noticed some parents are dropping their children off in the lower carpark by the fourth grade classrooms. Although we understand that this is more convenient than using the ring road and swimming pool carpark, we would like to request that ALL children are dropped off at the swimming pool carpark. We do not have supervision in place in the lower carpark, and want to ensure that students are safe. Thanks for your support with this process.

A reminder that the speed limit on campus is 30km.
