Dear Pretoria Campus Parents,

Thank you to our amazing Parent Association for organizing another fun and memorable event! Thank you parents for volunteering and enjoying Family Fun Day at AISJ Pretoria.

From the Parent Association:

Thank you to everyone who came out to Family Fun Day last week and made it a successful event! We raised over R20,000 which will go towards future events, staff appreciation week, service learning efforts, middle school socials, etc.

Please join us Wednesday night at 6:00 pm at Tigers' Milk (Lynnwood) for our next Parents' Night Out. See you there!

Calling for Mother Tongue Day (Feb 21) help!  We need one or two volunteers who would be interested in helping to organize the food festival for that day.  It is a (much) smaller version of the International Day we had at the JHB campus in October. If you're interested, we'd love your help! Please contact mindyrrich@gmail.com for information.

This year is going by fast, and we are already thinking of what next year's PA team will look like.  Many of our current officers are moving after this school year.  Please consider taking a position.  The school needs you!  Positions available: president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, events coordinator, service learning coordinator, eagle shop coordinator, welcome coordinator, elementary room parent coordinator, MS coordinator.  Wondering what each position does? Please ask!

Last week's PA meeting minutes are available on the school website.

Thank you!

Your PA team

Please be reminded that TODAY:

CHILD PROTECTION; AN INTRODUCTION AND DISCUSSION WITH PARENTS

Today, 1:30-2:30 PM in the Annex. Please join the AISJ Pretoria counselor Ms. Eliza to discuss the key components of the child protection lessons given to students in Grades PreK-8. We will begin with a short power-point presentation followed by discussion and questions on AISJ’s child protection curriculum and how you can support your child’s learning at home.

CCA SEASON 3 REGISTRATION CLOSES TODAY! WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING ANY FURTHER STUDENT REGRISTRATIONS FOR CHANGES TO SEASON 3 ACTIVITIES.

Your attention in ensuring all CCA registrations are completed digitally is greatly appreciated. This allows us to efficiently account for the activity registration, payment and transport arrangements of each student. For additional registration assistance, a designated laptop is located in the Parent Room for Season 3 CCA registration. Please request help from our main office, Mr. Velaphi, our tech coordinator, or Mr. Dave Richert.

Mercy House For Refugees School Shoe Drive

We all know the feeling a new school year brings: excitement, anticipation and nerves.  At most schools in the world it also brings the stress of back-to-school shopping; stationery, uniforms, and school shoes must all be purchased.  For families who don’t have a lot, it can be quite a burden.

The families at Mercy House for Refugees in Johannesburg, one of our Pretoria service learning partners, are no exception.  Children at the home often receive old shoes from donations, but they wear out quickly and don’t always fit.

To help relieve some of the financial burden on these families, the Pretoria PA organized a Christmas drive to purchase new school shoes in the correct size for the children at the home, as well as a pair to grow into.

Mercy House has extended their thanks, and provided illustration by way of the smiles on the faces of the children in the pictures below, for the willingness of our Pretoria families to help the children at Mercy House get the 2019 school year off to a great start.
